NATHANIEL HILL
Baritone Nathaniel Hill is excited to return to The Florentine Opera, where he has appeared as Cascada (The Merry Widow), Shepherd (Venus & Adonis/Dido & Aeneas), Priest/Armored Man (The Magic Flute), Liberto/Console/Soldato (L’incoronazione di Poppea) and Hyde on the Grammy nominated recording of Prince of Players. This summer, Nathaniel will make his debut at Des Moines Metro Opera singing the role of Senator Joseph McCarthy in Fellow Travelers. An avid performer of new works, he was honored to sing the role of Robert Dziekański in the US premier of John Plant’s I Will Fly Like a Bird. Nathaniel was previously an apprentice artist at Central City Opera, appearing as Tom/John in The Face on the Barroom Floor. In the summer of 2017, Nathaniel performed the role of Guildenstern in the piano-vocal premier of Herschel Garfein’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead at the Seagle Music Colony. He has also sung in Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre’s productions of Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, and Speed Dating Tonight. Nathaniel spent three summers at the Aspen Music Festival, singing Breedley in Bolcom’s A Wedding, Grégorio in Roméo et Juliette and covering Marcello in La bohème. Nathaniel was a Studio Artist at Madison Opera for their 2015-2016 season, appearing in La bohème, Little Women, and The Tales of Hoffmann. He received his education at Indiana University (B.M.), and Northwestern University (M.M.).
Nathaniel has been the recipient of several awards, including: Regional Finalist (2017 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions), Encouragement Awards (2016, 2018, and 2020 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions), and the Eckstein Scholarship (Northwestern University). In his free time, Nathaniel enjoys long walks and complaining about the Cleveland Cavaliers.
