Hailing from Stafford, Virginia, bass Cory McGee began his 2019-2020 season performing the role of The Sodbuster in Rice Opera’s production of Mazzoli’sProving Up. This past summer, he joined Santa Fe Opera as an Apprentice Artist for their 2019 season, portraying the role of the Gardener in Ruder’s The Thirteenth Child. In the spring, Mr. McGee was seen in the role of Elder Ott in Rice Opera’s production of Floyd’s Susannah. In 2018, he was a Studio Artist with Wolf Trap Opera, performing the role of La Voce in Mozart's Idomeneo, Ranger Nat in Hanlon's Listen, Wilhelmina!, and in Bernstein at 100 - A Celebration, at the Filene Center. Upcoming highlights include performances of Publio in Rice Opera’s production of Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito, and returning to Wolf Trap Opera as a Studio Artist for their 2020 season to sing Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin. Recent engagements include Sylvano in Rice Opera’s production of Cavalli’s La Calisto, the title role of Figaro in Oberlin Opera Theater’s production of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, and Leporello in Mozart’s Don Giovanniat Teatro Petraca in Arezzo, IT. Praised by Palm Beach Arts Paper for his “powerful, clarion voice,” McGee has performed several roles with the Miami Music Festival, portraying Colline in Puccini’s La bohème, Reverend John Hale in Ward’s The Crucible, The Speaker in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and Harasta in Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen. Other operatic highlights include Mamma Agatha in Donizetti’s Viva la mamma!, with Oberlin Opera Theater, and Bartolo in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaroat Teatro Petrarca.
